Flexline Professional Sound System

Flexline - Placed Vertically

Engineering Specifications:
The loudspeaker system shall be capable of generating an isophase acoustic wavefront that will have a 120 degrees at -6dB horizontal dispersion and 10 degrees at -6dB vertical dispersion. It shall offer a homogenous cylindrical dispersion pattern for maximum coherence and speech intelligibility. It shall form a single line array in steps of 4, 8, 12 and 16 enclosures. It shall both be usable either vertically or horizontally or be used as side-fills or center-clusters. It shall stay coherent regardless of the number of enclosures coupled together. The loudspeaker system shall be intended for high-performance high-end sound reinforcements application for crowds of 5,000 people and more.

It shall integrate a single step rigging mechanism that will lock automatically to the preselected angles. Angles will be adjustable in step of 0, 3 and 6 degrees. The rigging system shall meet and exceed the North American and European norms of security. It shall be permanently fixed on each side of the cabinets. The load shall be exclusively supported by the rigging system alone. Each cabinet shall only have to support its own weight.

A complete module shall be composed of two 15-inch bass cones, three 6-1/2-inch mid cones and two 7-inch ribbon drivers. It shall have a natural flat frequency response of 65Hz to 30kHz without any electronic correction. Each module shall have a continuous thermal power handling of 2 000 watts. The full level music program distortion shall stay below 1%. Each module shall have an efficiency of 100 dB SPL @ 1 watt @ 1 meter. Each module shall reach 130 dB SPL of acoustic power with a compression level lower than 1dB. The minimum impedance of each enclosure shall not be lower than four (4) ohms. Each module shall not weight over 250 lbs.

The ribbon drivers shall utilize forced-air cooling with a speed monitoring system for maximum power handling. Airflow shall be from the rear to front to avoid dust accumulation inside the drivers. It shall be equipped with a muffler system to absorb noise and shall be equipped with a dust filter. The input duct shall be horn-shaped to avoid water incursions. The back plate shall have a red LED that indicates: cooling system standby and a blue LED that indicates: cooling system operational. The ribbon driver shall be equipped with a phase correcting device to uniformize the top high frequency response. Both ribbon drivers shall be mounted on a laminated dampened 3/8-inch aluminum plate to control the front baffle interference resonances.

The mid cones of 6-1/2-inch shall reproduce accurate human voices, string instruments, piano and violin with high-accuracy. There shall be no horns and no compression chambers to assure a clear and coherent frequency reproduction. The midrange bandwidth shall cover 300Hz to 3000Hz to remove any crossover point within the human critical frequency spectrum. The mid-cones loading shall be of the fourth order type for best voice coil ventilation and least cone displacement at the tuning frequency. The vertical distance between the mid cones shall not be superior to 6-1/4-inch.

The bass cones of 15-inch shall be loaded in a fourth order configuration for best voice coil ventilation and optimal enclosure volume. The enclosure ports shall be symmetrically positioned to respect isophase coherence.

Arena configuration of four Flexline The loudspeaker system shall include independent floor bass units covering a bandwidth of 25Hz to 65Hz. The bass units shall be equipped with stabilizing feet to avoid any pendulum or wow and flutter effects. The woofers shall be 18 inches in diameter and be equipped with a neo radial magnetic system for maximum cone displacement, maximum power handling and minimum distortion. They shall be constructed with reinforced epoxy cones. The floor bass units shall withstand a thermal power of 800 watt continuous. Their full level music program distortion shall be kept below 3.4%. The bass enclosure shall measure 36" x 24" x 36". It shall not weight more than 150 lbs.

The crossover points shall be located at 25Hz, 65Hz, 300Hz and 3 000Hz with 24dB / octave Butterworth slopes. Every speaker cone shall be time aligned together. Every loudspeaker cone shall be measured, indexed and pair-matched before installation to insure perfect stereophonic image stability.

The rear panel shall have: an audio input high-quality 19 pins SOCAPEX male connector to insure high power capacity and low resistive loss; 8 pins shall be use for the two 15-inch bass cones, 6 pins for the three 6-1/2-inch mid cones, 2 pins for the two ribbon drivers and 2 pins to power the cooling system.

The cabinet construction shall be made of premium quality Baltic veneer with a highly durable and reliable epoxy finish. The cabinets and rigging system shall be reversible to allow left or right mounting. The front to rear cabinet dimensions shall allow an angle adjustment of the front baffle of 6 degrees. The angle adjustment swivel mechanism shall be located at the enclosure front. Every loudspeaker drivers shall be flush-mounted for minimum diffraction. The cabinets shall be airtight and vibration-free. Their size shall be 160" x 47" x 19". Each group of four enclosures shall require one (1) amplifier rack composed of only three (3) amplifiers. The amplifiers' rack shall weight no more than 160 lbs.

No deteriorating protection devices shall be used inside the enclosures. The protection shall be done electrically inside the digital crossover. The crossover shall be permanently adjusted and password-protected.

Features and benefits:

  • high speech intelligibility due to an highly linear isophase wavefront that eliminates multiple sound source interferences and lowers the reverberations;
  • natural and delicate human voice reproduction because of the small diameter mid cones;
  • high pressure level achievable that requires only a few enclosures due to a low attenuation factor with distance;
  • uniform sound distribution within the listening space because of the wide isophase and coherent energy distribution;
  • all direct radiating cones for full bandwidth homogeneity;
  • lower far-field to close-field amplitude deviation;
  • extremely linear and high-frequency extension drivers for quick transients and natural highs;
  • light weight, least cabinets and quick set-up time that allow substantial savings in man-hours and transportation expenses;
  • extremely reliable and efficient rigging system that will lower the assembling time;
  • highly predictable reliable performance due to the well controlled directivity;
  • no compromise, only high-quality components;
  • effective ventilation system for long term stability and reliability;
  • deep and tight bass performance due to the high-headroom cone displacement;
